RR Ranch Current Farming:
RR Ranch, for the last 2 years, has been farming with a 50/50 rotation between wheat and cotton. We have been using traffic control methods to control compaction for over 15 years. GPS guidance has allowed us to harvest in the November-December timeframe, followed by wheat being drilled into the standing cotton stalks as soon as each field is harvested. The cotton stalks will be shredded at a height of 8” in March, the following spring. Wheat harvest will start in June. The wheat stubble will be shredded if it is determined to be too tall. Then, the wheat stubble is tilled with a vertical tillage plow to cut, size, and pin wheat stubble into the soil. The ground will be kept clean with the help of chemical herbicides through the summer, fall, and spring. Then, cotton will be planted in late May to June. The cotton crop will be kept clean with chemical herbicides until October. Defoliation will begin, getting the crop ready for harvest. After harvest, the wheat crop is planted, thus the rotation of the crops has come full circle after two years.
